David Alder

David is a Director and Representative of Alder and Partners Pty Ltd (AFSL 382714).

David co-founded Alder and Partners in 2010 and is a member of our Investment Committee. Continuing the family tradition (sixth generation) of providing financial advisory and investment management services to private clients, not for profit entities, and corporate clients, he has been employed in the Australian securities industry since 2001.

David holds a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Western Australia, and has completed both the Diploma of Financial Planning and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) courses via Deakin University. He has been granted the Certified Financial Planner designation by the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA).

He specialises in the provision of strategic and technical advice, self managed superannuation as well as portfolio investment management. David has extensive experience in investing, both directly and via unlisted managed funds, in equities, real estate investment trusts, interest rate securities and exchange traded funds.

David is Co-Chairman of the Western Australian Anglicare Winter Appeal Committee which raises funds to assist people to cope with the challenges of life and relationships. He is also a Councillor with the Art Gallery of WA Foundation whose role it is to raise funds and encourage donations to assist in acquiring works to the State Art Collection. The Foundation also aims to broaden the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of art in the community and assists with the Art Gallery’s education program.

Steven Tulloch

Steven has been employed in the financial services industry since 2005, working in a variety of roles across financial planning and stockbroking in Perth. He also spent three years working in Fixed Income Derivatives for Morgan Stanley in London. Steven specialises in superannuation, investment management, taxation planning and insurance.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Western Australia, a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment through FINSIA and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) from Kaplan Professional.

Steven joined our team in January 2013 and is responsible for the provision of strategic and technical advice to clients. He is also a member of our Investment Committee.

Hilah Ahmadzai

Hilah began her financial services career in 2008 and gained valuable experience working in a number of technical roles within the financial advice industry. Prior to joining Alder and Partners in November 2013, she worked as an Associate Adviser for a privately owned financial services firm.

Hilah holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia majoring in Investment Finance, Corporate Finance and Money & Banking and has also been awarded a Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning.

She helps prepare comprehensive financial advice for clients as well as carrying out technical research and complex strategy development.

Hilah has been granted the internationally recognised Certified Financial Planner® designation by the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA).

Josh Metcalf

Josh began his financial services career in 2011 and has gained valuable experience working as an Associate Adviser for a leading national financial services firm.

Josh holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Curtin University majoring in Financial Planning and has also been awarded qualifications in Margin Lending and Self-Managed Super Funds.

Josh has been granted the Certified Financial Planner® designation by the Financial Planning Association of Australia.

Investment Analysts

Sky Walker

BCom GDipFP

Sky is our lead Investment Analyst and is responsible for research of; Australian and international companies; property trusts, development companies and loans; interest rate securities including corporate and government bonds; as well as listed and unlisted funds that we engage in these sectors.

Sky’s strengths are in both business and macro-economic analysis and he leads discussion at monthly Investment Committee meetings, weekly portfolio meetings and bi-annual Asset Allocation meetings.

In addition to this he has ultimate responsibility for maintaining group level investment exposure monitoring and risk management systems.

Sky has been employed in the financial services industry since 2005 and by Alder & Partners since 2009.

Ezatollah Ranjbar

BCom

Eza is our Associate Investment Analyst. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Western Australia, majoring in finance and accounting.

He is passionate about the share market and identifying outstanding investment opportunities. He has been a private investor since university and prefers to invest in companies with strong management teams, understandable business models, favourable industry dynamics and strong competitive advantages, while paying sensible prices.

Eza previously worked within the Corporate Finance and Restructuring division of a global advisory firm undertaking a wide variety of roles including a client engagement in Zambia, trading a supermarket, conducting research and working on formal insolvency engagements. While completing his university studies he also interned at a boutique business advisory and taxation firm in 2016 and within the Audit division of Ernst & Young in 2015.

Paul Nagle

Paul is a Director and Representative of Alder and Partners Pty Ltd (AFSL 382714).

Paul co-founded Alder and Partners in 2010. As Technical Manager, Paul not only provides our clients wealth management services, he is also a valuable team member providing clients and staff with advice on complex strategy matters.

Paul has been employed in the financial services industry since 1999 in a variety of advisory, professional standards and management roles bringing experience in analysing equity, property and fixed interest investments for inclusion in client portfolios. He completed a Bachelor of Business at Curtin University and has been granted the Certified Financial Planner designation by the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA ).

Judit Law

Judit started her career in the financial services industry in 1999 and has been predominantly working for boutique financial planning businesses in technical roles. She is involved in the preparation, research and development of strategies for our clients.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment through FINSIA and also has an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services.

Amanda Hurren

Amanda has been employed in the financial services industry since 1997 working for various portfolio and superannuation administration firms and leading stockbroking firms providing administrative assistance to financial advisers and their clients.

She has completed a Diploma of Financial Markets with the Securities Institute of Australia and Certificate of Superannuation Management with the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia.

Emma Norris

Emma began her career in the financial services industry in 1998 working for various fund managers and banking institutions. She has experience in the industry in many roles from administrator through to para-planner.

Emma has completed the Diploma of Financial Services as well as the Diploma of Superannuation Management.

Linda Katsikandarakis

Linda joined our team in May 2013 as Client Services Manager.

She has been employed in the financial services industry since 2000, working in boutique financial planning businesses. Linda has experience in many roles from administrator through to para-planner.

Linda has completed the Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning).

Investment Committee

David Hadingham

David is Chairman of the Investment Committee. From February 2010 to February 2017 David held the position of Investment Manager for the Clough Superannuation Fund, a $250 million Corporate Fund with just under 2,000 members. As Investment Manager David was responsible for the day to day monitoring of investments, idea generation, assessment and implementation. He was a member of the Fund’s Investment Committee and reported to the Fund’s Trustee Board. The Fund was in the top quartile of Balanced Superannuation Funds during this period.

The Fund invested both directly (equities, fixed interest, cash and property) and through some specific fund managers. The primary focus was on direct investment.

David was seconded the CBH Superannuation Fund (October 2010 to September 2013) to act as their Investment Manager during a transition phase for their Fund, while at the same time continuing his primary role with the Clough Fund.

Prior to his role at Clough, David had previously worked in Australia at PricewaterhouseCoopers (Audit). JB Were (Assistant Financial Planner) and Perpetual (Private Client Adviser).

During a four year period in London he worked at Brewin Dolphin Securities (Split Capital Investment Trust Analyst) and GAM (Hedge Fund Analyst).

David holds a Bachelor of Commerce from UWA, is a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow with FINSIA.

Richard Alder

A Fin FAICD

Richard has worked in the securities industry since 1965 and brings extensive experience to our investment committee.  He was employed by JB Were for 31 years – in Melbourne, London, and as a Partner and Director of the Perth office for 17 years until September 2003.

Richard’s responsibilities at JB Were included representing the firm within the corporate sector, advising professional investment and superannuation funds on their investment strategy and facilitating the placement of new and existing capital for ASX listed companies.  During his time at JB Were, Richard was involved in facilitating the capitalisation of local companies, such as West Australian Newspapers Holdings Limited, Alinta Limited and Wesfarmers Limited.

From 2003 to June 2014 Richard consulted to Australia’s largest ASX listed investment company – Australian Foundation Investment Company (founded by his grandfather, Staniforth Ricketson in 1928).

Between February 2008 and February 2016, Richard was Employer Director on the Board of Western Australia’s largest industry superannuation fund, the Government Employees Superannuation Board.

He was also a Board Director of Royal Flying Doctors Service (Western Operations) from December 2007 to December 2016.

At various stages from June 1998 until March 2018 Richard was a member of the Murdoch University Foundation, Trustee of the Murdoch University Veterinary Trust, and a member of the Veterinary Trust Advisory Committee.

From October 1999 until May 2018 Richard was a Trustee of the Scotch College Foundation.

Richard is currently is currently active in honorary advisory roles with the Investment Sub-Committee of the Scotch College Foundation (since 2003), as a Director of the Lions Eye Institute (since October 2017) and a Trustee of the JP Stratton Trust (since 2005).

Matt Ward

Matt is an Investment Manager for a leading investment firm based in Perth. During his 9 years in the accounting profession, Matthew completed a broad range of assignments for KPMG in London and Johannesburg before transitioning into investment evaluation and commercial advisory work in senior commercial management roles for large corporates.

He has also held senior analytical and investment management roles in stockbroking and in funds management over the past 12 years in Australia. Matt specialises in bottom-up value investing, high-conviction mid-cap and large-cap opportunities, industrial and financial services sectors and macro thematics.

James Telders

MSc CFA

James joined our Investment Committee as an independent member in 2019. He’s a partner at Three Springs Technology, a Perth based firm that develops Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning solutions for corporate clients.

Prior to Three Springs Technology he spent close to 10 years working in Investment Banking. He started his career working as a Corporate Finance Analyst at Rabobank in Amsterdam (2004-2006) and progressed to the level of Vice President in the M&A department at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein in London (2006-2011). During these years he spent most of his time financial modeling and advising clients in corporate takeovers and divestments across Europe and Russia.

At the height of the European debt crisis, James spent three years in the Middle East, where he worked at QIA (2012-2014), Qatar’s state-owned sovereign wealth fund. He was a member of the fund’s direct investments team reviewing and recommending on buying and selling large positions in equities, hybrids and alternative investments.

In 2015 he became a partner in TWA Aggregates LLP, a London based syndicate that co-invests in LNG infrastructure assets in Eastern Africa.

James is a Dutch national and holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst from the CFA Institute, completing all three levels between 2015 and 2017.
